General Concept

Roleplay (RP) in Union Heights is about bringing a believable character to life inside a realistic world. You create a character with their own name, personality, background, motivations, emotions, and flaws. When you play, you are not you — you are your character.

Serious roleplay means valuing realism, immersion, and meaningful interaction over fast action or constant combat. Every decision your character makes should make sense in real life.

Character Names

Just like in real life, every character must have a realistic first and last name.

Allowed:

  • Names that sound natural and believable
  • Names from different cultures (as long as they are realistic)

Not Allowed:

  • Joke or unrealistic names (e.g. Mr Shooter, Avocado Master)
  • Famous or well-known names (e.g. Michael Jackson, Elon Musk)
Your name is your identity — treat it seriously.

IC & OOC Explained

Union Heights roleplay is split into two clear environments:

IC (In Character)

  • Everything your character says, does, or experiences in the RP world
  • IC actions have consequences
  • The normal chat is IC by default

OOC (Out of Character)

  • Anything outside the roleplay world
  • Questions about controls, bugs, or real-life matters
  • Communication that does not involve your character

Metagaming

What happens IC stays IC. What happens OOC stays OOC.

Using information gained outside the roleplay world to benefit your character is called Metagaming and is strictly prohibited.

Example of Metagaming:

  • Seeing something on a stream, Discord, or voice chat and reacting to it IC
  • Calling a friend on Discord to save you from an IC situation

Important:

  • Using IC information OOC is called Inciting Metagame and is also not allowed
If your character does not know it — you cannot act on it.

Roleplay Actions (/me)

Actions are a core part of serious roleplay. Use the /me command to describe what your character is doing.

Rules for /me:

  • Must be written in third person
  • Must stay realistic
  • Must not force outcomes on others

Example:

/me opens the door slowly.

What others see:

* John Smith opens the door slowly.

Powergaming (Not Allowed):

  • Performing impossible or unrealistic actions
  • Forcing other players’ reactions
❌ Incorrect:

/me punches Jake, knocking him unconscious.

✅ Correct:

/me swings his fist toward Jake.

This gives the other player a chance to react.

Facts & Environment (/do)

The /do command is used to state or ask for factual information in the roleplay environment.

Examples:

/do What is Jake wearing?
/do There is an empty beer bottle on the table.
/do John has a bandage wrapped around his arm.

Rules for /do:

  • Must be written in third person
  • Must be realistic
  • Cannot be used to gain unfair advantages
❌ Not Allowed:

/do John has eyes in the back of his head.

That would be powergaming.

Violence, Killing & Deathmatching

Union Heights is a serious roleplay server — killing is a major action and must always be justified with strong roleplay reasons.

Deathmatching:

  • Killing or attacking without proper roleplay
  • Killing for trivial or no reason
Deathmatching is strictly prohibited.

Your character should value their life just like in real life.

Fear Roleplay (Fear RP)

You must roleplay fear when facing situations that would realistically cause fear.

Examples:

  • A gun aimed at you
  • Being outnumbered or threatened
  • Facing serious injury or death
❌ Unrealistic:

  • Charging an armed person
  • Ignoring threats to your life
✅ Realistic:

  • Cooperating
  • Attempting to de-escalate
  • Acting nervous, scared, or cautious
Failing to show fear is considered FailRP.

Progress & Learning

Serious roleplay takes time to master. Everyone starts somewhere, and mistakes are part of the learning process.

As you gain experience in Union Heights, your roleplay will improve naturally through interaction, observation, and feedback.

If you ever need help, Union Heights Supervisors and Staff are always available to guide you.
